1/10/25:
We've begun a survey of veterinarians to assess whether they have surprising "time of death experiences" during euthanasia procedures, like to those reported by healthcare workers in human hospices.
9/28/23:
OMS President Dr. Lee von Kraus, OMS Vice President Dr. Ken Gorczyca, and OMS research associate Dr. Kathleen Cooney presented data on veterinary "time of death experiences" (TDEs) at the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care (IAAHPC) conference in Fort Worth Texas. The presentation was awarded first prize and was well received by all in attendance.
4/1/25:
We've concluded our survey, "Time of Death Experiences During Veterinary Euthanasia Procedures," after receiving over 600 responses. Thanks to Dr. Ken Gorczyca, Dr. Kathleen Cooney, and Dr. Lori Kogan for promoting the survey at veterinary conferences, in an article for the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), and in an interview on The Pet Loss Companion podcast. We plan to publish the fascinating results of this survey in a peer reviewed scientific journal.
